Storage Tips
Make the most of your self-storage experience and benefit from our years of experience with these storage tips. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
- Use bubble wrap to protect your valuable items and pack them into sturdy boxes or plastic crates.
- Label your crates or boxes on several sides for quick and easy identification.
- Don’t put heavy items on top of couches or beds as they will damage the sponge/stuffing in the long term.
- Place wooden furniture on pallets or bricks to reduce the risk of water damage.
- Due to the combination of water and heat, condensation can form in units that aren’t aired regularly. Use a plastic sheet to cover your goods and it will protect them from damp and dust.
- Pack your large and heavy items into your unit first, leaving more space to stack your smaller items.
- Place boxes that you need access to near the front of the unit to save you time.
- Refrigerators and freezers must be empty and dry and should be stored with open doors to encourage ventilation.
Do not store any of the following in your unit:
- Perishable foods which will attract rats and other pests.
- Hazardous, dangerous, illegal, stolen, explosive or environmentally harmful goods.
- Valuables such as paintings, jewellery, money or family heirlooms.
